Eph 1:15 “For this reason, ever since I heard about your faith in the Lord Jesus and your love for all God’s people”
Understanding the Different Types of Prayer :
As we grow in our love for Jesus Christ we naturally desire to talk to Him. The Lords prayer is the most powerful prayer but today we will find out the different types of prayers from Bible.
- Blessing & Adoration
In prayers of adoration or worship we exalt the greatness of God and we acknowledge the dependency with Him in all things. Holy Mass and Liturgies of the church are full of prayers of adoration or worship such as the Gloria. - Prayer of Faith
According to the Word of Lord, the prayer of Faith will save the one who is sick and the Lord will raise him up. In this context the prayer is offered in faith for someone who is sick, asking God to heal and when we pray we have to believe the power of goodness of God. - Prayer of Agreement (Corporate Prayer)
After Jesus ascension, Mother Mary and all the disciples joined together and they were constantly in prayer. Later after the Pentacost the early church devoted themselves to prayers, their examples encouraged us to pray with others. Praying with others and agreeing with others is the best way to get answer from God. - Prayer of Request (Supplication)
We have to take our request to God. According to Word of God, do not be anxious about of anything. But in everything by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your request be made known to God. Part of winning the spiritual battle is to be praying at all times in the Spirit with all prayers and supplication. - Prayer of Praise
It acknowledges what He is. The Psalms perhaps the best known example of prayers of praise. - Prayer of Thanksgiving
We see another type of prayer in the Book of Philippians. Their Thanksgiving or Thanking to God is a powerful way to please the Lord. With Thanksgiving let your request be made known to God. Many examples of thanksgiving prayers can be found in the book of Pslams. - Prayer of Worship
The prayer of worship is similar to the prayer of thanksgiving. Worship focus on who God is and thanksgiving is on what God has done. The church leaders prayed in this manner with fasting. While they were worshiping the Lord and fasting, the Holy Spirit said, “Set apart for me Barnabas and Saul for the work to which I have called them. So after they had fasted and prayed, they placed their hands on them and sent them off.” - Prayer of Consecration (Sanctification)
Sometimes a prayer is a time of setting ourselves a path to follow Gods will. Jesus made such a prayer at the night before His crucification – “Going a little farther, he fell with his face to the ground and prayed, ‘My Father, if it is possible, may this cup be taken from me. Yet not as I will, but as you will.'” - Prayer for Intercession
Many times our prayers include request for others as we intercede for them. We are told to make intercession for everyone according to the Word of God. Jesus serves an example in this area. The whole of chapter John 17 is a prayer of Jesus on behalf of his disciples and all believers. - Prayer of Love/Charity
Expression of our love for God the source and object of all love. The act of charity a common morning prayer is a good example of prayer of praise and love.
- Prayer of Binding and Losing
It is a prayer assured by Jesus and he said that “Truly I tell you, whatever you bind on earth will be bound in heaven, and whatever you loose on earth will be loosed in heaven. Again, truly I tell you that if two of you on earth agree about anything they ask for, it will be done for them by my Father in heaven.”
There are several important points here – We have authority here on this earth by virtue of our covenant rights through Jesus Christ. - Prayer of Implications
Imprecatory prayers are found in Psalms, they are used to invoke Gods judgement on the wicked and there by avenge the righteous. The Psalm use this type of appeal to emphasise the holiness of God. But Jesus thought us to pray for your enemies and so this type of prayers are not advisable
It does not matter what type of prayer you follow but the most important thing is that you must be united in mind, soul, spirit and body when you pray.
We are blessing you from the House of Lord, may God teach you the mysteries of prayer, may God answer all your prayers and petitions, may God open the heavens and bless you abundantly, may God give you the authority to trample over snakes and scorpions and overcome all the enemies without any fear and harm. May God help you to pray according to the will of God, may the Spirit of Lord fill you with wisdom, knowledge and understanding. May God bless you, your job and family. We seal all these blessings in the name of the Father, the Son and to the Holy Spirit.
