LEARN and PRACTICE the WORD of GOD

The personality of God

Inner wounds and healing- Sudden action – anger

Overcome anger…
(Continuation from yesterday)

The common definition of meekness in the Bible is “strength under control.” A meek person is willing to overcome anger by – be submissive, is humble and gentle, relies on God and is dependent on Him to provide strength. I.e. meekness is being humble and gentle towards others and willingly being submissive and obedient to the Lord. It is not being anger or selfish and arrogant, loud or obnoxious. Rather, it’s having a quiet but confident trust in the Lord and being willing and able to do whatever it is He commands. In regards to how a meek person would treat others, they would definitely be humble and gentle both in their words and in their actions.

Meekness is a quality, a few characters from Bible.

Moses
Moses is mild of temper; soft; gentle; not easily provoked or irritated or angered; yielding; given to forbearance under injuries.
Moses was very meek, above all men.
Numbers 12:3 – “Now the man Moses was very humble, more than all men who were on the face of the earth”
Moses never trusted in himself; in fact, there are instances when he was afraid to do what God asked of Him because he didn’t think he was qualified for it. But, he came to realize that God never calls the qualified—He qualifies the called.

Jesus
1 Peter 2:23 – “who, when He was reviled, did not revile in return; when He suffered, He did not threaten, but committed Himself to Him who judges righteously.”
Mathew 11:29 Christ says, “Learn of me, for I am meek and lowly in heart, and you shall find rest to your souls.”
Mathew 5:5 Blessed are the meek, for they shall inherit the earth.
2 Corinthians 10:1 I beseech you by the meekness of Christ..
Meekness is a grace which Jesus alone inculcated, and which no ancient philosopher seems to have understood or recommended.

Paul
‭‭2 Corinthians‬ ‭10:1‬ “By the humility and gentleness of Christ, I appeal to you—I, Paul, who am “timid” when face to face with you, but “bold” toward you when away!”

Imitate the Qualities of Meekness
1. *Be Humble, gentle and patient. *
Ephesians 4:2 “Be completely humble and gentle; be patient, bearing with one another in love.”
2. *Be holy, dearly loved, compassionate, kindness, humbleness and gentleness. *
‭Colossians 3:12 “Therefore, as God’s chosen people, holy and dearly loved, clothe yourselves with compassion, kindness, humility, gentleness and patience.”
4. Pursue righteousness, godliness, faith, love, endurance and gentleness*.
1 Timothy 6:11 “But you, man of God, flee from all this, and pursue righteousness, godliness, faith, love, endurance and gentleness.”
5. Instruct others gently.
2 Timothy 2:25 “Opponents must be gently instructed, in the hope that God will grant them repentance leading them to a knowledge of the truth,”
6. Be in the presence of the Holy Spirit.
Titus 3:4-5 “But when the kindness and love of God our Savior appeared, he saved us, not because of righteous things we had done, but because of his mercy. He saved us through the washing of rebirth and renewal by the Holy Spirit,”‭‭
7. *Meekness changes our speech. *
Proverbs‬ ‭15:4 “The soothing tongue is a tree of life, but a perverse tongue crushes the spirit.”
‭‭
The way to impart life is with a gentle tongue. Anger won’t produce God’s righteousness (James 1:20). Anger may intimidate others to do what we want, but it won’t change their hearts.

Prayer: Abba Father, we pray today that You would draw us into meekness. We pray that You would soften our hearts, that You would remind us of the gift of gentleness, that You would show us through Jesus how to live in love day by day. We pray that You would forgive us of our sins and open our eyes and hearts to forgiveness for others in our lives. We ask that You would help us to guard our actions, speech, that the action and words we say would be life-giving and glorifying to You. We are so grateful for Your refining fire in our lives. Jesus, In Your holy name we pray, Amen.
